Week 5: Grid Drawings

This grid drawing was by far my favorite assignment so far this year! I had so much fun working on this project!! I can't believe how long it took, but I'm super proud of how it turned out! :) So this first image is my reference image, or the one I copied. Pretty sick picture, right? I LOVE it.

This next image is my drawing with the grid-lines still on. Mr. Wiechmann requested we take a picture before we erase the them.

And now, this next image is my final project! I love how the shading made it look 3D-ish. I will definitely try grid-drawing again!

The only thing I would change is maybe try to work a little but more with the shadows.
Title: How Did They Do That?
Size: 8.5" x 11" (I was going to use a bigger piece of paper but the only ones I had were in the art set we got at orientation, and I didn't know if we were going to use them for a later project. So I just stuck to standard computer paper. :)
Media: Just a pencil :)

Week 5: Weekly Drawing - Computer

This week's weekly drawing was to draw either our computer or our TV. I chose to draw my laptop :) I was debating forever about whether or not I should add color. I was hesitant because I didn't want the color to blur out the details. Any suggestions would be very welcome!!

Map Art: Redo

Mr. Wiechmann suggested I make the background darker so the island would pop out more, so I did and it looked different enough that I decided to put it up. I really wish I could have had more time to work on this project, because I think it was an awesome idea! If I hadn't have had to have all my stuff in before the weekend, I would have definitely done more with this project. Maybe I will redo again.

Week 4: Map Art

This week's Create assignment was to draw a map of an island, any island. Now, at first glance, this might seem like a pretty lame drawing, but hear me out - there's a story behind it (naturally).
When I was maybe 14 or 15, I read a book called "The Shadow Thieves." I was inspired to write. So I wrote a story called "The Invisible Island." It was about three teenagers who end up friends on a cruise boat that sinks in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. They are the only survivors.
The teens, two girls and one boy, manage to float to an island. From there things get crazy. They find that the island is inhabited with strange, fairy-tale creatures: pixies, dwarfs, dragons, centaurs, mermaids, ogres, etc.
You'd have to read the book to be able to tolerate any more of the synopsis, but basically, the island (called Klaineana) is invisible to everyone except those three teens. They must embark on a crazy journey and learn lots of things before they can get home.
I never finished the book. I want to someday because it's a really great story.

This artwork portrays to me the magic of imagination, and the wonder of new worlds.

Weekly Drawing: Week 4 - Hand

Our weekly drawing assignment for this week was to draw our hand. I'm not very pleased with how mine turned out, but I imagine by the end of the year I'll be able to do a much better job.

Week 3: Collage Art

The first image is my reference image. I love that picture and the feeling it creates, so I wanted to create something a little bit like it. As far as how my collage turned out, I only used the basic design of the reference image and just did my own thing for color and everything else. Most of the pictures came out of a magazine that was pretty much full of stuff for 15 year old girls and One Direction fans, so not me...but it looks pretty cool anyway.

This artwork portrays to me a safe and personal place that has everything, including room to grow.

Weekly Drawing: Week 3 - Tree

Title: Spring In the Yard
Size: 8" x 11"
Media: Pencil and colored pencils
We weren't required to upload this assignment to our blog, but I wanted to anyway. I was disappointed in how it turned out when I scanned it in. You have to look really close to see the little bit of color and detail, but a little editing did help. :)
This artwork was really fun to create and I like the simplicity about it. It portrays to me the hope and promise of a new year.
